The views of children in care have been highlighted  by Ofsted for the first time in its annual survey.

The government inspectorate polled more than 28,000 adults and children earlier this year. Respondents included children in the care system, those living in foster families, young people with experience of the care system, and professionals who directly with them such as social workers and care home staff.

The children surveyed highlighted the following issues as matters of particular concern:

  • They want to feel part of their foster families.
  • They want to feel safe and looked after.
  • They want staff who prioritise the children living in each residential home.
  • They want to have a say and enjoy some responsibility and independence.
  • They want good food and fun things to do.

The report is entitled Children’s social care questionnaires 2015: what children told us. Read it here.

Findings from the survey of adults were released in a separate report.
